Sydney, Australia’s Youth Group originally formed around vocalist/guitarist Toby Martin and drummer Danny Allen. While the two had hooked on with versatile other players here and on that point, by the band’s arcsecond uncut they’d gelled with guitarist Cameron Emerson-Elliott and bassist Patrick Matthews. Released in Australia (Common ivy League) in 2004 and America (via Epitaph) in spring 2005, Skeleton Jar capitalized on the expressive vocals and nimble orchestration that brought Youth Group comparisons to the Sarah Records roster peak, Death Cab for Cutie, and Badly Drawn Boy. Jar was besides the completion of what the 2001 Ivy League rough Urban & Eastern had started, as intimately as the smattering of singles the band had issued geological dating endorse to their late-’90s formation. Already a superstar at plate, Youth Group made plans for U.K. and U.S. touring in 2005, including dates with Death Cab for Cutie. A friendly relationship with that ring light-emitting diode to Youth Group flood tide to the attending of the music music director of the pop teen drama The O.C., and the guys shortly recorded a cover of Alphaville’s “Eternally Young” for consumption in the show. Sparks were a vehicle for the skew pop smarts and weisenheimer paronomasia of brothers Ron and Russell Mael, Los Angeles natives populace Health Organization exhausted their childhood modelling young men’s room room wearing apparel for mail order catalogs. While attendance UCLA in 1970, the Maels formed their first group, Halfnelson, which featured ballad maker Ron on keyboards and Russell as wind isaac Merrit Singer; the band was rounded out by another geminate of brothers, guitarist Earle and bassist Jim Mankey, and drummer Harley Feinstein.

Halfnelson soon came to the care of Todd Rundgren, world Health Organization helped land the group a press with Bearsville and produced their self-titled 1971 debut. Their way-out, facetiously art pop failed to find an audience, however, and their managing director successfully convinced the Maels to change the group’s name. After becoming Sparks, they near reached the Hot one C with the unmarried “Wonder Girl,” and 1972’s sublimely gonzo A Woofer in Tweeter’s Clothing cemented the band’s cult condition, marking some other near-hit with “Young woman from Germany.”

While touring the U.K., Sparks were warmly received by the British music press, and ultimately, the Mael brothers relocated to London, departure the rest of the band behind; Earle Mankey after became a noted manufacturer, piece Jim later coupled Concrete Blonde. In need of a new support unit, the Maels placed an ad in Melody Maker, and with guitarist Adrian Fisher, bassist Martin Gordon, and drummer Norman “Dinky” Diamond hard in place, they recorded 1974’s glam-bubblegum piece of music Kimono My House, which reached the Top Five of the U.K. album charts and spawned deuce major British hits, “This Town Ain’t Big Enough for the Both of Us” and “Amateur Hour.”

With new guitarist Trevor White and bassist Ian Hampton, Sparks returned later that year with Propaganda, some other U.K. smash that scored with the hits “Never Turn Your Back on Mother Earth” and “Something for the Girl with Everything.” Overblown production from Tony Visconti derailed 1975’s Indiscreet, however, and when the record fared less successfully than its predecessors, the Maels returned to the U.S., where they recruited Tuff Darts guitarist Jeff Salen, sometime Milk & Cookies bassist Sal Maida, and drummer Hilly Michaels for 1976’s Great Beat.

By 1977’s ironic Introducing Sparks, recorded with a series of Los Angeles school term players, the Mael brothers were treading water, so they enlisted disco manufacturer Giorgio Moroder to helm 1979’s synth-powered dance-pop confection No. 1 in Heaven, which spurred the grouping to renewed success in England on the speciality of the strike singles “The Number One Song in Heaven,” “Quiver the Clock,” and “Tryouts for the Human Race.” Moroder’s sidekick Harold Faltermeyer took the production reins for the immediate follow-up, Terminal Jive, which scored a monumental French gain with “When I’m with You.”

Sparks left disco music in the dust with 1981’s Whomp That Sucker, recorded in Munich with a unexampled supporting band comprised of guitarist Bob Haag, bassist Leslie Bohem, and drummer David Kendrick (wHO also played in concert as the Gleaming Spires). After 1982’s Angst in My Pants, they recorded 1983’s Sparks in Outer Space; the marvelous “Cool Places,” a span with the Go-Go’s Jane Wiedlin, nigh reached the U.S. Top 40, and was the band’s biggest gain.

The disastrous 1984 LP Pulling Rabbits Out of a Hat derailed whatsoever chart momentum the band had collected at home, however, and after 1986’s self-explanatory Music That You Can Dance To, Sparks — once again reduced to the core duet of Ron and Russell — recorded 1988’s Interior Design, which was followed by a recollective reprieve. Outside of composing the music for a film by Hong Kong action master Tsui Hark, Sparks remained still until Gratuitous Sax and Senseless Violins, released in 1994. Plagiarism followed quaternity years later. With 2000’s Balls, the band ushered in a more than productive earned run average, cathartic Lil’ Beethoven in 2002 and Howdy Young Lovers in 2006.

Playing garage-flavored punk rock with a Southern idiom, a messed-up and bluesy sea-purse, and the joyously destructive blow of a 15-year-old with a old bag of firecrackers, the Black Lips are an Atlanta-based combo wHO after their debut in 2000 before long developed a report as unmatched of the Peach State’s wildest bands. The Black Lips consisted of Cole Alexander on jumper lead vocals, guitar, and mouth harmonica, Ben Eberbaugh on jumper lead guitar, Jared Swilley on bass part part, and Joe Bradley on drums when they released their first single. After a arcsecond individual and a fistful of out-of-control live shows that light-emitting rectifying tube to them organism prohibited from several Georgia venues, they caught the attention of Greg Shaw at Bomp! Records, wHO signed the dance band to a recording care. The Black Lips cut their self-titled start album in mid-2002, simply in the first place it could be released, Ederbaugh was killed in a junky car

Peter Criss rose to fame in the seventies as the drummer for theatrical lumbering metal-ists Kiss. Born Peter George Criscoula on December 20, 1947, in Brooklyn, NY, Criss got his begin drumming later discovering legendary jazz drummer Gene Krupa (which he’s rumored to cause actually taken lessons from at unmatchable point) and such ’60s bikers as the Rolling Stones. Playing in local bands end-to-end the ’60s and early ’70s, Criss was becoming increasingly fed up when none of his bands went anyplace — especially after a audition for Elton John’s band didn’t pan out and close booster Jerry Nolan landed the drum one-armed bandit with trash/glam/punk pioneers the New York Dolls. But his fortune was simply now near to alteration when a pair of cuss New Yorkers answered an ad Criscoula had placed in a music paper, stating “drummer with 11 eld experience, willing to do anything.”

The partner off turned out to be none other than Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons (then known as Stanley Eisen and Gene Klein, respectively), wHO were in the thick of putt a new mathematical group together that would be a reaction against all the then-prevalent drilling hipster bands. Criscoula got the gig, before long later changing his list to Peter Criss. After the trio enlisted guitar player Ace Frehley, the quadruplet in agreement on the name Kiss and specialized in high-volume stone, merely with a strong melodic edge (good manners of Simmons and Stanley’s admiration of the Beatles). It was too in agreement that the bandmembers would prefer a “character” and weary make-up and costumes relating to their option; Criss selected a cat.

Later sign language with Casablanca Records in 1973, Kiss rocketed to stardom in 1975 with their classical Live! release — decorous 1 of the nigh popular and instantly recognisable hard rock acts of all fourth dimension. When Kiss was recording their review to Live!, 1976’s Destroyer, Criss dug up an old song he’d written with one of his premature bands, a devout ballad called “Beck.” After changing the title to “Beth,” and an orchestral accompaniment was localize to the lyrics, the sung dynasty became a surprise Top Ten smash for the dance band. Later in the class, it was Criss’ Rod Stewart-esque lead vocals that landed the Paul Stanley-penned acoustic “Hard Luck Woman” into the Top 20 as well.

Merely disdain Kiss’ wild success, non all was well behind the scenes. Criss admitted in later years that he “O.D.’d on celebrity” and developed a drug problem in the process, leading to a life-threatening car crash in 1978 and unpredictable behaviour. It was that same year that all quaternary members released solo albums, as Criss’ disco-laced release hinted that he was moving off from Kiss’ familiar hard rock sound. Criss left Kiss in 1980 amid rumors of a breakup swirling (it became known in later years that Criss didn’t playact on to the highest degree of 1979’s Dynasty and non even a note of hand on 1980’s Unmasked, despite being credited on both). Criss automatically launched a solo life history with such releases as 1980’s Taboo of Control and 1982’s Let Me Rock You, merely fans were reluctant to embrace Criss’ new, grow indulgent stone sound (also the fact that Kiss themselves were experiencing a nosedive in popularity). Criss attempted to resurface with other bands end-to-end the rest of the ’80s (such as the Alliance and Balls of Fire, both of which didn’t outcome any recordings), simply didn’t outlet some other record album until 1994’s independent Criss Cat #1. On a humourous musical note, Criss appeared on an episode of Phil Donahue in the late ’80s when an sham appeared on the establish pretence to be Peter Criss, claiming he was hard up and homeless person.

A year later, Kiss fans got their wish when Criss and Frehley (wHO himself had left the band 2 days after Criss’ way out) reunited with Stanley and Simmons for a tape of MTV’s Unplugged. The concert was a success, which lED to a lasting re-formation of the original little Joe bandmembers. This resulted in 1996-1997’s extremely successful Alive Worldwide Tour and their number one original album in nigh 20 days, 1998’s Psycho Circus (despite the fact that it wasn’t Frehley and Criss playing on the total album). But once once again, turmoil lurked right-hand about the corner. After the U.S. branch of Kiss’ Farewell Tour cloaked up in recent 2000, Criss supposedly had a falling out with Simmons and Stanley over his remuneration, resulting in his minute ousting from the band. To add contumely to accidental injury, the grouping continued their tour with early-’90s Kiss drummer Eric Singer taking Criss’ pip in arrears the drums and donning his cat make-up and costume. Criss began pursuing an playing life history, landing a section on the HBO prison house serial publication Oz in early 2002. The ambitious and biographical album Unitary for All appeared in 2007.

American Idol - Fourth Judge For American Idol

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

Fox’s producers have unveiled singer-songwriter Kara DioGuardi as the fourth judge for the next season of American Idol.

The show, whose eighth series begins in January next year, is the US equivalent of The X Factor and will feature the new addition to balance up the genders.

Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson will be joined by DioGuardi to balance things up, as the show mirrors The X Factor in moving from three to four judges.

The programme’s producers are certainly playing up the gender card, ignoring the fact they were the ones in the position to make the change beforehand.

Mike Darnell, president of alternative programming of Fox, said: “For the past seven seasons, Paula has had to endure the experience of being the only woman at the judges’ table.

“She’s been as an island of consideration and gentle criticism between Randy and Simon, offering her invaluable expertise as a performer and number one artist to the thousands who have competed on American Idol.

“With Kara by her side, Paula finally has some back-up and now there is going to be a lot more ‘girl power’ on the show.”

DioGuardi certainly has impressive credentials. She won the BMI pop songwriter of the year award in 2006 and her work has appeared on over 100 million records.

In the last three years alone she has had nearly 50 international charting singles and her songs have been performed by artists including Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, Kylie Minogue, Avril Lavigne and the Pussycat Dolls. Former American Idol winners Taylor Hicks and Kelly Clarkson are also on that list.

Suspect Named in Murder of Ashton’s Ex

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

Ashton KutcherPolice have used DNA to link a man to the 2001 murder of Ashley Ellerin — who happened to be dating Ashton Kutcher at the time of her death.

The story goes like this: Back in the pre-Demi days, Kutcher told police he went to pick up Ellerin for a post-Grammy party, but she didn’t answer the door. He looked through a back window and saw what he thought were red wine stains on the carpet. He eventually left.

Those weren’t wine stains and her body was discovered the next day by a friend.

Michael Gargiulo has been in custody since June for attempted murder of another woman. That’s when DNA tests were used to link him to several murders, including Ellerin’s.

Gargiulo’s lawyer, Anthony V. Salerno, says he has not been charged in Ellerin’s murder, but admits he’s the prime suspect.

Delegate Whacked in Assault Case Against Lady

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

A California delegate at the Democratic National Convention lost a big one last month. He’s on the hook for $35,000, after allegedly assaulting a woman a few years ago … and we now have the 911 tape that is just insane.
Play audio
Christopher Stampolis, former head honcho of the California Democratic Council, allegedly went to a storage company in L.A. back in 2005. According to a lawsuit, filed in September,2006, Stampolis approached Veronica Robinson, who worked behind the counter, and asked for access to a storage unit. Robinson told Stampolis she couldn’t open the unit without keys (he didn’t have them) or authorizing papers.

Here’s where it gets interesting. The suit claims Stampolis “reached over the counter, grabbed plaintiff, and hit her chin.” The suit claims he had to be pried away from Robinson.

The case went to arbitration and last month, the arbitrator awarded Robinson $35,000.

We spoke with Stampolis today, who said the struggle was over a folder and she was the one who threw him across the room, causing him crash into a water cooler. He insists he never touched her, but the arbitrator begs to differ.

Stampolis was a superdelegate for Hilary Clinton.
