Los Angeles-born Chris Cacavas has been boot around the music business since the early ’80s and has served as a sideman for such artists as Green on Red, Steve Wynn, Giant Sand, and Pat Thomas. He released his debut LP (with his circle Junkyard Love) in 1988. Cacavas’ state and folk-tinged rock music songs, delivered in a plaintive, plaintive voice, birth weatherworn consistent comparisons to Neil Young. (Comparisons that ar sure as shooting further fueled by his optic aspect on the Neil Young tribute album This Note’s for You, Too!, on which he covered “Tonight’s the Night.”) Most of Cacavas’ sooner records are in the number 1 place available in Germany, where he has a discrete cult following. 1999’s Midget Star, released on Innerstate Records, made his country-inflected melancholia more widely usable to American scripture buyers. The attempt featured a horde of originals, including the childishly clean-handed “I Like Lyle Lovett” (sampling lyric: “If I had a boat/We could sail all day/And he would make me laugh/By the laughable things he’d say”). Gnome Star besides featured a cover of the Matthew Sweet pop/country dirge “Person to Pull the Trigger.” In 2002, Cacavas released the album Butterfingered Home From the Star on Innerstate.
