Emmy The Great compares her fate to Guns N’ Roses at Glastonbury
|
A chatty Emmy The Great woke up the fans at the John Peel Stage as the second day of Glastonbury (June 28) got underway. Backed by her full band, Emmy chatted with the crowd as she skipped between songs. “I can’t believe the sun’s out,” she declared, before offering to sacrifice herself for weather telling the crowd to “quick, go outside”. Later before ‘We Almost Had A Baby’ she explained that she had never played a festival “without my ex-boyfriends band playing, but it’s the first time we’re not on the same stage!” Playing a host of songs set to appear on her so far unreleased album, Emmy compared her predicament to Axl Rose. “This is a title track to an album that may never be released like ‘Chinese Democracy’,” she explained ahead of the song that quoted Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’, before adding, “that’s not a political joke, but a Guns N’ Roses joke!” With the set including the likes of ‘MIA’, ‘Canopies And Grapes’ and ‘Gabrielle’ she wrapped things up in chaotic fashion, asking: “How much time have we got left?” before adding “Oh can I use this opportunity to tell my brother that I can charge his phone up? Let’s meet after.” She then concluded her set with ‘City Song’. Keep up with all the action from Glastonbury this weekend (June 27-29) as it happens on NME.COM.
