Patriots Playlist: Adalius Thomas

Now in his ninth year in the NFL, linebacker Adalius Thomas came to the Patriots [team stats] by way of the Baltimore Ravens in 2007. The Alabama native is known for speed, strength and sacks; off the field, however, he shows a softer side.

Age: 31

Most recent concert: Chaka Khan at Showcase Live

Favorite genre: “Mostly r & b, sometimes ’80s. Sometimes I’m in a relaxed mode and just want to chill.”

Artists he’d most like to meet: “Jay-Z or P. Diddy, because of their entrepreneurship,” said Thomas, who holds a degree in sports administration from the University of Southern Mississippi. “Both of them are rappers and artists, but at the same time they have a whole different perspective. They’re producing and going into clothing and making the most out of their opportunity. So I respect that.”

Playlist: Al Green and Teddy Pendergrass rank high on his list; he’s also a fan of country and jazz.

After last Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs, Thomas’ post-game playlist included T.I., Rockwell and “American Idol” winner Jordin Sparks. Dirty rap? No thank you. Thomas plays only clean music in the locker room and in the car with his two children.

Game Day: For this 6-foot-2-inch, 270-pounder, it isn’t beats that get him pumped. “(I listen to) whatever somebody’s playing in (the locker room), because I don’t need music to get me ready. I’m always thinking about my plays. Coming over here I listen to rap, because it gets you kind of hyped up.”

What fans would be surprised to know he listens to: “Probably blues. On Saturday that’s what my parents listened to, all of the old-school stuff. I’m from the South and a lot of people up North I guess don’t really listen to blues a lot.” Thomas names Johnnie Taylor, B.B. King and Otis Redding among his faves.
